On October 27th, Center for Biological Diversity and Californians for Pesticide Reform filed a petition to request that California Air Resources Board initiate a rulemaking to add sulfuryl fluoride to CARB’s greenhouse gas inventory and phase out the use of sulfuryl fluoride in California. After consulting with other industry stakeholders, NPMA sent a letter to the Branch Chief of CARB’s Industrial Strategies Division requesting that CARB deny the petition. In our letter, we highlighted that concentrations of sulfuryl fluoride in the atmosphere are negligible compared to other greenhouse gases. We also reminded CARB that there are no viable alternatives to sulfuryl fluoride, and that EPA and California DPR are tasked with regulating pesticides, not CARB.
