Pest Management Industry Participates in International Women’s Day 2021
On March 8, people around the globe celebrated women leaders during International Women’s Day, and the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) is proud to have seen the pest management industry participate in this year’s initiative.
While there are women represented in all job roles across pest management businesses, they are an anomaly in our mostly male-dominated industry. NPMA strongly believes that sharing examples of successful women in pest management roles could inspire other women to join this changing industry and help close the gap. Click here for a snapshot of the pest management companies who participated in celebrating #IWD2021 #ChooseToChallenge.

This June 6-12, 2021 is Bed Bug Awareness Week, an annual designation recognized by Chase’s Calendar of Events to remind consumers to remain alert for bed bugs while traveling. The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), which serves as the public outreach arm of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), is observing this week by educating the public through various media relations and social media tactics on the signs of an infestation and the importance of working with a licensed pest control professional.

Last week, EPA published multiple fact sheets alerting the public about concerns regarding unregistered and illegal importations of liquid dichlorvos (DDVP) through commercial airline flights. The fact sheets, which can be accessed here, include information designed to educate the public, building managers, airline flight personnel, and Customs and Border Protection Agents of the concern. DDVP is an insecticide that is no longer registered in the United States in its liquid form. Some formulations are currently registered for professional use and when used according to label instructions are an important part of the structural pest control toolbox. Liquid forms are still used in other countries and brought into the United States illegally for sale and distribution. Pest management professionals are urged to confirm that the products they use bear an EPA Registration number. Illegal or unregistered pesticide products should be reported to your state lead agency (SLA). Find contact for your SLA here. Additionally, always read and follow all label instructions.
Join us next week on March 16-17 as we host the first virtual Legislative Day. You will have the opportunity to hear from Washington insiders, discuss the current issues affecting our industry with your state and federal representatives, and make a difference.
