Last week, NPMA joined the Association of American Pesticide Control Officials (AAPCO) and the Association of Structural Pest Control Regulatory Officials (ASPCRO) in submitting a letter to the United States Environmental Protection Agency regarding pesticide devices that make human health claims and produce a pesticidal substance. Many devices are exempt from pesticide registration when they operate by physical means (i.e. electricity, light or mechanics), however when devices claim to make human health claims and produce a pesticidal substance, health and safety is potentially at risk. These devices are becoming more prevalent in health care, schools and food processing settings as part of disinfection programs and the joint letter requests that EPA reconsider which devices require registration. Read the entire letter here.
