We strongly believe that sharing examples of successful women in pest management roles could inspire other women to join this changing industry and help close the gap in this male-dominated space. The 2023 theme is #EmbraceEquity. We encourage those in the industry to participate and share on social media using #IWD2023 #EmbraceEquity #WomeninPestManagement and tag us!
The Impact Awards, sponsored by FieldRoutes, honor and celebrate exceptional women at all levels within the pest management industry, in any role, including management, technical/service, sales, or office staff. NPMA staff have continued meeting with key stakeholders on Capitol Hill to discuss our legislative priorities. This week, we met with the offices of Rep. Nikki Budzinski (D-IL-13) and Rep. Shontel Brown (D-OH-11), who both sit on the House Agriculture committee. During these important meetings, we provided staff with background information on our pesticide preemption efforts to-date, and also socialized the importance of including state-level pesticide preemption in the 2023 Farm Bill.
This week, we also closed out our pesticide preemption industry support letter to four corners. Thank you to all of the 200+ organizations that agreed to sign on! Your support is very much appreciated.
And finally, we have expanded our Voter Voice campaign on S. 269, formerly known as “Protect America's Children from Toxic Pesticides Act” (PACTPA), to include pest management professionals in the state of Michigan. We encourage all NPMA/MPMA members in Michigan to reach out to Senate Agriculture Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and request that she oppose S. 269. We also encourage everyone to share this Voter Voice campaign with friends, colleagues, and other industry professionals that are in the pest management industry in Michigan.
Coming to Legislative Day? Your participation in these meetings is essential to the success of our association and the pest management industry. All attendees are welcome to join in on the conversations and help us foster fresh ideas. Attend these meetings and be a representative of our diverse industry.

In celebration of Black History Month, NPMA invites you to learn more about Charles Henry Turner, courtesy of The Marginalian. A leader in the field of entomology, Turner was the first to prove insects can hear and distinguish pitch, and the first scientist to achieve Pavlovian conditioning in insects. His vast body of work provided evidence that insects are endowed with memory, problem-solving ability, learning, and feeling.
