NPMA and Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) have jointly announced they have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU). The purpose of the MOU is to expose minority students to career opportunities in the structural pest management industry as it relates to protecting people, food and property from the diseases and destruction caused by pest infestations. The two organizations will partner with the goal of offering access to high school, undergraduate and graduate MANRRS students to learn about pest management through in person educational conferences, online learning courses, ride-alongs with technicians, and internships at local companies.
The 2019 guidelines were developed as a resource for pest management professionals that provide service to the retail food service industry. This guidance is comprised of three sections that all interact together – record-keeping and communication are a major part of implementing an integrated pest management program for retail food handling facilities. This guide will help with developing a true partnership between the pest control operator and the restaurant or food service client for excellent service.

This week, NPMA staff met with five cosponsors of HR 7266, which was a 2022 standalone bill that codified state oversight of pesticides at the state level. These offices included Rep. Rick Allen (R-GA-12), Rep. David Rouzer (R-NC-7), Rep. Brad Finstad (R-MN-1), Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA-11), and Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA-8). During these meetings, NPMA staff requested that these Members of Congress submit state-level pesticide preemption as a priority in the House of Representative’s 2023 Farm Bill priorities portal.

The Professional Pest Management Alliance (PPMA), the consumer marketing arm of NPMA, leads the charge on educating Americans on the threats posed by pests and the importance of working with a pest control professional through its consumer media relations efforts. In its most recent PPMA Update, a monthly newsletter shared with investors and supporters, the group reported March media coverage highlights, which included placements on WAKR (CBS Radio) – discussing PPMA’s Bug Barometer® and spring pest prevention as well as PPMA’s Termite Awareness Week efforts. Additionally, an NPMA expert was interviewed about spring pest predictions due to the mild winter on Accuweather’s podcast “Everything Under The Sun”.
