Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), often referred to as drones, have become increasingly popular in recent years for recreational as well as professional applications. While the popularity of drones continues to grow, so have the regulations imposed on drones when used for commercial purposes. The goal of this document is to offer guidance on the steps required by individuals and companies that wish to utilize drones in their pest and wildlife inspection services.
NPMA recently sent a letter to the EPA that outlined high-level alternative mitigation measures that the Agency could consider in lieu of an RUP classification. In addition to the alternative mitigation measures, NPMA also suggested many partnerships that EPA could form with industry to help achieve the Agency’s objectives. A few examples of these partnerships are working with the Agency to develop refreshed rodenticide stewardship training, in addition to annual training for state and federal regulators and inspectors.
This week, NPMA will be meeting with EPA to discuss our proposed alternative mitigation measures and suggested partnerships. During this meeting, we also plan on reminding the Agency that the additional proposed mitigation measures outside of an RUP classification (PPE requirements, carcass removal statements, etc.) are not only ineffective, but are also incredibly burdensome to industry.
