NRMCA Senior Director, Sustainability Initiatives, James Bogdan last week presented "Transparency Initiatives within the Concrete Industry" at the Contractors Environmental Conference (CEC) hosted by The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) in Washington, DC. NRMCA was included in a panel discussion titled "Materials and Technology Spotlight: Environmental Advancements in Asphalt, Cement, and Ready Mix." Environmental Product Declarations, responsible sourcing and life cycle assessment are leading to changes in the materials industries. How are these trends playing out with asphalt, cement and concrete?
Bogdan discussed NRMCA initiatives to educate and position the industry for responding to product and enterprise transparency, and successes when developing programs for EPD, responsible sourcing and material ingredient disclosure. The initiatives were accompanied by other panelists representing the Portland Cement Association, National Asphalt Pavement Association and the Federal Department of Transportation. The AGC hosts the CEC as the management conference for environmental professionals in the construction industry.
As part of the Build with Strength campaign, NRMCA participates in conferences to promote member and industry competitiveness in the green building marketplace and the trends toward product and company transparency.
