Last week at the Washington Aggregates & Concrete Associations’ (WACA) educational Winter Workshop in Spokane, NRMCA President Robert Garbini discussed the Build with Strength campaign to promote concrete building systems through communications, direct project promotion, education and advocacy. Tien Peng, NRMCA’s vice president of sustainability, then discussed the significant changes to LEED v4, how concrete contributes to green building and recent developments in the cement industry. Approximately 40 industry professionals from the Pacific Northwest as well as local government agency representatives attended.
NRMCA uses these opportunities to educate its members to the critical need for advocacy at one of the epicenters of wood interests to better leverage the role of concrete in green building and alternate solutions for mid-rise development. One such solution was presented by Kevin Davis, director of sales for Quad-Lock Building Systems Ltd. as he presented "Building with ICF (Insulated Concrete Forms) in Mid-Rise Structures & NRMCA Mid-Rise Design Assistance Program" to the membership.
