NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving Phil Kresge recently participated in the Ohio Concrete Association’s (OCA) Northwest Ohio Concrete Fall Seminar in Perrysburg. This year’s seminar theme was Pavement Design Choices and Kresge’s presentation focused on concrete parking lot design. The program was hosted by Wayne Moening, OCA’s Northwest Ohio promotion director. Attendees learned about the differences between flexible and rigid pavements, and the importance of designing a pavement for purpose. They were introduced to the American Concrete Institute’s ACI 330R: Guide to Design and Construction of Concrete Parking Lots and learned why it is imperative that designers reference ACI 330 rather than AASHTO roadway designs. Additionally, Kresge discussed the potential for concrete overlays of existing asphalt parking lots. Each attendee received a complimentary copy of the Guide to Concrete Overlays of Existing Asphalt Parking Lots, courtesy of the OCA.
