With LEED v4 officially launched on November 1, suppliers to the green building marketplace expect to see activity and inquiries regarding product transparency, whether in the form of environmental, health or responsible sourcing disclosure. As such, the Health Product Declaration Collaborative recently launched a directory of products with HPDs. The HPD Public Repository is the authoritative source for published HPDs. When a manufacturer publishes an HPD using the HPD Builder, it is automatically uploaded to the Repository as a PDF file. HPDs that have been created by means other than the HPD Builder can also be uploaded to the repository by the manufacturer. Once uploaded, an HPD is considered to be a "Public HPD." Uploaded PDFs are then searchable and available to be downloaded by users – Architects, Designers, Project Teams, Property owners or any interested party. A simple search capability is available to aid in finding HPDs by Manufacturer, Product Name, CSI Classification or HPD version. Currently, the repository has 1,891 listed products.
Pertaining to material ingredient disclosure, the NRMCA delivered awareness and education in 2016 to prepare members for growing ingredient transparency trends. In April, NRMCA published a Material Ingredient Reporting Guidance document. The guide, funded by the RMC Research & Education Foundation, offers explanation and provides pathways for concrete producers to contribute toward a LEED v4 Material Ingredients credit. Supporting the guidance document, the NRMCA hosted several Webinars with experts that described a health product declaration (HPD) and how to develop an HPD.
As part of the Build with Strength campaign, NRMCA promotes Strength Through Transparency for member and industry competitiveness in the green building marketplace and the trends toward product and company transparency. For more information, contact James Bogdan at jbogdan@nrmca.org or 412-420-4138.
