NRMCA Continues to Push Legislators to Defund Labor Department Regulations

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Last week, the Appropriations Committee received a series of NRMCA-backed requests to defund Obama-era labor regulations. Over the past few weeks, NRMCA has been lobbying members of Congress to support measures to keep the government from enforcing four of the Obama Administration’s labor rules: the joint employer standard, the ambush election rule, the persuader rule and the micro-union ruling. Each of these labor rules has a negative impact on the ready mixed concrete industry and NRMCA’s Government Affairs team is working to get them defunded.

The measures that NRMCA Government Affairs lobbied were included in a letter submitted by Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL), a member of the House Rules Committee. Rep. Byrne’s request garnered the support of more than 70 members of Congress and was submitted to the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies last Wednesday. While NRMCA Government Affairs team’s ultimate goal is to get these rulings overturned and the regulations vacated and rolled back, these defunding measures will prevent the Labor Department and other federal agencies from continuing to enforce or uphold these standards. NRMCA will continue to work with a coalition of like-minded, pro-business groups to repeal these rules.
