NRMCA was well represented at the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Quality Assurance Workshop (QAW) in Dover Downs, DE, reports Senior Director, Local Paving, Ken Justice. Hosted this year by the Delaware Department of Transportation, QAW is a three-day annual event that has been held each year since 1967 and is dedicated to highway materials and quality control/assurance of highway materials. The workshop includes two main sessions covering a wide range of highway topics as well as five all-day breakout sessions devoted to the latest information on highway materials in the areas of asphalt, concrete, metals, maintenance, soils and aggregates. Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia make up the Mid-Atlantic QAW area.
This year, Justice was the moderator for the concrete breakout sessions. They were planned by Justice and David Dodd of the Materials Division of DelDOT (shown here, with Justice at right). The concrete session had seven speakers presenting a range of topics, including Justice's colleague Phil Kresge, vice president, local paving (shown here behind podium). The 2019 QAW will be held in Washington, DC.
