On Tuesday, the NRMCA Safety, Environment and Operations (SEO) Department professionals were on hand for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) announcement of the Top 10 Violations across both the construction industry and industries in general for fiscal year 2018. The rollout of the latest data took place at the National Safety Council (NSC) Congress & Expo held in Houston. OSHA annually releases the new information at the NSC event. This year’s OSHA’s Top 10 include:
.) Fall Protection – General Requirements (Construction: 29 CFR 1926.501)
.) Hazard Communication (General Industry: 29 CFR 1910.1200)
.) Scaffolds – General Requirements (Construction: 29 CFR 1926.451)
.) Respiratory Protection (General Industry: 29 CFR 1910.134)
.) Lockout/Tagout (General Industry: 29 CFR 1910.147)
.) Ladders (Construction: 29 CFR 1926.1053)
.) Powered Industrial Trucks (General Industry: 29 CFR 1910.178)
.) Fall Protection – Training Requirements (Construction: 29 CFR 1926.503)
.) Machine Guarding (General Industry: 29 CFR 1910.212)
.) Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment – Eye and Face Protection (Construction: 29 CFR 1926.102)
While the first nine are regularly common to OSHA’s Top 10 each year, the 10th (Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment – Eye and Face Protection: Construction) is a newcomer. OSHA reminds all employers to make sure their Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) programs are up to date and the correct PPE is on-hand and being used.
