Congressional appropriators' spending deal for Fiscal Year 2020 included $50 million for the NRMCA-supported Defense Community Infrastructure Program (DCIP). The DCIP is a pilot project funded for the first time to provide grants for infrastructure projects in communities around military bases. This program will fund infrastructure projects without relying on the Highway Trust Fund or Department of Transportation, and can be used for roads, bridges and water infrastructure as well as building police and fire facilities, rural broadband, and schools and hospitals. This was a program advocated by Government Affairs staff and is a significant win for the industry.
