2022 Habitat for Humanity International Expands Concrete Homes Effort with NRMCA

With nearly 20 concrete Habitat for Humanity homes currently underway across the country, Habitat for Humanity International and NRMCA’s Build With Strength have announced the slate of new homes to be started in 2022. Locations include Springfield, MA; Niagara, NY; Tupelo, MS; Joliet, IL; Harrisburg, PA; Tacoma, WA; Tillamook, OR; Roanoke, VA, and NRMCA’s home base in Alexandria, VA. Something a bit different is unfolding at this year’s locations with the help of our friends at the Carolinas Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the Georgia Ready Mixed Concrete Association.

The Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Charlotte, NC, and Berkeley County, SC, are preparing to move forward to build multiple concrete homes for families in those two markets in part because of the great work being done by Jessica Palmer and Caroline Sutton with the support of NRMCA's Frank Gordon and many others. The projects there will inform future work beyond these locations. The strategy is similar to what Jimmy Cotty and Frank Gordon orchestrated in Athens, GA, where one concrete home with Habitat for Humanity may inform the construction of an entire 60-home community with the support of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.

In Albuquerque, NM, the Habitat for Humanity staff were so impressed with the training they received at the build site in Santa Fe this past November that they are planning to build all concrete projects in 2022. They have already purchased some of the material and are looking to develop a partnership with an NRMCA Producer member so they can provide the safest and most energy efficient homes available in that market.
