NRMCA Director, Building Innovations, Brandon Wray will take part in an August 25 climate action and resilient design webinar hosted by the American Institute of Architects' California chapter. Wray will join Evan Reis of the US Resiliency Council (USRC) to discuss a recent USRC study in which the performance of various structural systems were assessed after being subjected to earthquakes of varying intensities.

Functional recovery time is often an underrepresented criterion of consideration when selecting a structural system. When (not if) the big one comes, the impacts of repair/rebuild will have massive economic and sustainability implications, but more importantly, displaced populations will be hit particularly hard. These impacts will unfortunately be weighted heavily toward low income and multifamily housing where FEMA P58-based displacement periods have the potential to be upward of 6 to 9+ months for some materials while concrete structures can be 1 to 2 weeks. We have the power to build it once and build it right when we Build With Strength.
