NRMCA and Build With Strength recently held a popular and heavily attended webinar titled Specifying Sustainable Concrete hosted by Structure magazine, a publication by the National Council of Structural Engineering Associations (NCSEA). The event set a record for the publication with more than 1,300 registrants and nearly 800 attendees listening as NRMCA Executive Vice President, Engineering, Colin Lobo and NRMCA Director, Building Innovations, Brandon Wray discussed the benefits of performance-based specifications on sustainable design.
The event was largely attended by members of the structural engineering community in which sustainable design considerations are becoming a common occurrence. Build With Strength is turning out to be a valuable industry resource for education and design assistance as engineering firms are being tasked with lowering the embodied impact of structural materials while also providing a structural system that can improve the operational efficiency of the building, Wray said. From the event, the Build With Strength team has already begun numerous specification reviews for a number of large design firms throughout the country.
