NRMCA and Build With Strength recently held a webinar titled The Top 10 Ways to Reduce Concrete’s Carbon Footprint for Jacobs, a global engineering group with over 55k employees. Attendees of the event heard NRMCA Executive Vice President, Structures and Sustainability, Lionel Lemay and NRMCA Director, Building Innovations, Brandon Wray discuss sustainability strategies and benefits of concrete.

The event was largely attended by members of the structural engineering community in which sustainable design considerations are becoming a common occurrence. Jacobs specifically is gearing up to join the SE 2050 Commitment in which firms are challenged to transform the practice of structural engineering through prioritizing the reduction of embodied carbon of structural materials. Joining the SE 2050 Commitment requires that participating firms submit an Embodied Carbon Action Plan (ECAP) which articulates how the firm will achieve its sustainability goals through education, reporting, reduction and advocacy.

Build With Strength continues to help the design community establish and pursue these goals through an improved understanding and use of concrete.
