It is with deep sadness that the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association announces the death of Scott Campbell, Ph.D., P.E., senior vice president, structures and codes. Mr. Campbell died on Friday, January 20, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Campbell joined NRMCA in January 2019 and was responsible for managing national standards in the areas of structures, energy and acoustics, among other topics, and coordinating with local, state and national codes bodies. During his tenure with the Association, he distinguished himself among his NRMCA colleagues with his vast knowledge of the built environment and how the ready mixed concrete industry should navigate the many challenging contemporary issues it faced.

Prior to joining NRMCA, Mr. Campbell was the director of code technology for the Portland Cement Association and had managed a consulting firm dealing with nonlinear structural problems, vibration and acoustics. He was also a faculty member at the Ohio State University and the American University of Armenia. His professional accomplishments were many and varied, including service as a longtime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Structural Engineering Institute and American Concrete Institute, among numerous other affiliated industry groups, organizations and technical committees.

Mr. Campbell held bachelor and master of science degrees in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He had authored multiple publications in the areas of nonlinear analysis and blast design of buildings and was a registered professional engineer in six states.

“In his all too brief tenure at NRMCA, Scott proved himself to be of great value to all of us. His vast technical knowledge was coupled with a good nature that made him a pleasure to work with,” said NRMCA President Mike Philipps. “I and many others are grateful for having known him and are greatly saddened by his death.”

Mr. Campbell worked from his home office in Cambridge, MA. NRMCA sends its sincerest condolences to his wife, Naira Campbell-Kyureghyan, daughter Anahit, and son, John.
