Build With Strength Promotes Sustainable Concrete to Prominent West Coast Engineering Firm

NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Brandon Wray presented on the topic of low carbon concrete and performance-based specifications for Salas O’Brien’s structural engineering group, formerly KPW Structural Engineers, a Top 30 engineering firm based on the West Coast. The event took place at the firm's Oakland, CA, office and was joined virtually by remote employees. Discussions focused on how to implement performance specifications that allow concrete producers to supply the most efficient and sustainable concrete mix designs for a given application.

The Salas O’Brien team is designing a large concrete-framed structure where the owner is adamant about pursing sustainability goals. This focus has led to questions about non-concrete framed options under the guise of improving sustainability. Fortunately, the firm is motivated to keep the structure concrete framed by bringing Build With Strength resources and expertise to the broader project team while working with local producers.
