FHWA to Fund Next Phase of Low Carbon Transportation Materials Grant Program

This week the Federal Highway Administration announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the next phase of the Low Carbon Transportation Materials (LCTM) grant program. Many state associations and companies were instrumental in helping more than 35 state DOTs to apply for funding under the first phase of the LCTM program. This next phase will provide up to $800 million in funding to local governments, political subdivisions of a state, U.S. territories, federally recognized tribes, Federal Land Management Agencies, Metropolitan Planning Organizations and special purpose districts or public authorities with a transportation function to increase the use of materials that have “substantially lower levels of embodied greenhouse gas emissions.” The deadline for applications is November 25.

As with the first phase of the program, industry resources are available to assist in helping eligible local entities to apply for these funds. The program presents a great opportunity to introduce low carbon concrete innovations and strategies locally. Resources are also available to work with your teams on implementation once the funds are awarded.

NRMCA, the Concrete Advancement Foundation and the MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub are working with  the American Concrete Pavement Association, National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech) and a group of consultants through the Reduced Carbon Concrete Consortium (RC3) to provide information, guidance and collaborative opportunities among state and local entities.
