ConcreteWorks Education Sessions Feature Varied Promotion Track Topics

NRMCA’s Concrete Promotion Committee has organized four education sessions for 2024 Concrete Works to address critical promotion issues. Sessions include:
October 12, 2 - 3 p.m. - Green Public Procurement: Current Policies and Progress: This session will provide an update on federal, state and local buy clean policies, NRMCA’s EPA grant, as well as GSA and FHWA benchmarking and grant activities. Speakers include Lionel Lemay and Brian Killingsworth of NRMCA and Chris Senseney, University of Colorado.
October 12, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. - Concrete Innovations – The Future of Low-Carbon Concrete: This panel discussion will feature several innovations on how cementitious materials will help the concrete industry meet its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, including biochar, biocements and calcined clay. Speakers include Lionel Lemay, NRMCA; Lori Tunstall, Colorado School of Mines; Mija Hubler, University of Colorado and Eric Koehler, Titan America.
October 13, 2 - 3 p.m. - The Role of Concrete in Sustainability Codes and Standards: This session will provide an overview of how the standards are addressing carbon emissions and how concrete can contribute to meeting these new requirements. Speakers include Tiffany Reed-Villarreal and Matthew Lemay of NRMCA.
October 13, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m - The Evolving Services of the NRMCA Concrete Design Center: This session describes how NRMCA’s Build With Strength and Pave Ahead teams are meeting the challenge of embodied carbon reduction goals by offering specification review services along with carbon budgeting methodologies that benefit the entire design and build team. Speakers are Donn Thompson and Luke McHugh of NRMCA.
