Build With Strength Brings Low Carbon Concrete Strategies to Net Zero Conference

The concrete industry showcased its commitment to sustainability at the recent Net Zero Conference held in Anaheim, CA, where NRMCA’s Build With Strength (BWS) coalition sponsored, exhibited and presented the latest advancements in low carbon concrete. NRMCA’s Lionel Lemay, Brandon Wray and Patrick Matsche along with Association members Jim Little of National Ready Mixed Concrete Company and Karin Perissinotto of CalPortland (seen here, left to right, are Matsche, Little, Lemay, Wray and Perissinotto) participated in the annual convention which attracted climate leaders to re-envision the built environment while inspiring a net zero future. The event highlighted the crucial role that low carbon concrete plays in reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment.

A recurring topic was the importance of collaboration between concrete producers, building designers and contractors as these partnerships foster innovative solutions that integrate low carbon materials effectively into architectural designs. Lemay and Wray participated in multiple panel discussions and presentations at the conference alongside contractor partners such as Webcor, Hathaway Dinwiddie and DPR Construction. These sessions facilitated knowledge exchange while enabling attendees to explore best practices in using low carbon concrete and optimizing its benefits in real-world applications.

Matsche further convened with design partners in onsite meetings that provided the BWS team a chance to influence multiple project specifications by incorporating performance-based and sustainability driven changes that will open the door for efficient concrete mixes to be implemented. Overall, the convention reinforced the concrete industry's proactive approach to sustainability and the essential role of collaboration in driving forward low carbon initiatives, ultimately transforming the built environment for a greener future.
