NRMCA’s Dispatcher Course, hosted in Dallas last month, marked the introduction of a new curriculum designed in response to member insight with a focus on practicality. Members who offered valuable advice and suggestions through the 2024 Learning & Development Survey and focus groups have contributed greatly to the overhaul of the course and other NRMCA educational programs. NRMCA is grateful to Ron M. Robertson, director of consumer success at Associate member Command Alkon, Inc., who designed, developed and then delivered this course which has changed in several key ways:

  • First, for the convenience of learners, the content of the program has been condensed into two days, allowing for more valuable and interactive instructional time even with a shortened overall duration.
  • Second, the course no longer features an exam, focusing instead on practical skills and universal techniques, tools and tips which learners can apply in their everyday work routine However, participants will still be awarded a certificate of completion in recognition of their dedication in honing their expertise and advance the ready mix industry.
  • Third, for the first time, NRMCA implemented a paperless course, replacing printed educational materials with iPads (seen here). The debut of iPads in the classroom allowed for learners (seen here) to follow course content more closely on their personal screens and facilitated greater interactivity through polling and other features. These devices are intuitive to use and will become a mainstay in future NRMCA Learning & Development offerings.

“This course was amazing to me," said one attendee. "I found it very informative and will use what I have learned every day from here on out. I’ve been in this industry for just over a year now and I’m still learning more about it every day. Thank you for helping all of us to be better at what we do.”

NRMCA’s Learning and Development Team is always eager to hear additional feedback. Members are invited to speak directly to Senior Vice President, Learning and Development, Jeannette Munroe by phone, 703-706-4864 or email, jmunroe@nrmca.org.

*Please note: the revised curriculum is not designed around any particular dispatch software product or service.
