Former Board Chairman Kaney Dies at 86

Former chairman of the NRMCA Board of Directors T. Michael Kaney died on December 13 at the age of 86. A lifelong resident of the Tampa, FL, area, Mr. Kaney was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering in 1961. He then served in the Army Corp of Engineers from 1962-1964. Mr. Kaney worked for Florida Mining & Materials and predecessor companies from 1956 until his retirement as vice president. Throughout his career he was active in NRMCA, serving as Board chairman from 1995-1996. In 2013 he was awarded the Chairman's Award, since renamed the Robert A. Garbini Award, for extraordinary dedication and service to NRMCA. Mr. Kaney was also a member and president of the Florida Concrete & Products Association and president of the Concrete Institute of Florida. Other affiliations included the Florida Transportation Builders Association and Florida Lime Rock & Aggregates Institute.
He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Jana Davis Kaney; children Frances Leigh Kaney, Laura Kaney Campbell (Dennis) and Michael Davis Kaney (Michelle), and numerous other relatives, including four granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on January 31 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, NC, 27608. A Celebration of Life will be held following the service.
