NRMCA leaders attended the 2025 ASHRAE Winter Conference held in Orlando, FL, earlier this month to advocate for concrete construction in upcoming building standards. Three key Association staff members participated: Darryl Dixon, AIA, senior director, energy codes and standards; Julian Mills-Beale, PhD, director of civil/structural codes and standards; and Tiffany Reed-Villarreal, PE, director of sustainability codes and standards.

They engaged in Project Committee meetings centered on energy efficiency and high-performance building standards, and addressed essential topics, including thermal performance of building envelopes, energy credit systems and environmental impact measures. A significant portion of discussions focused on Environmental Product Declarations and strategies to reduce global warming potential while achieving net-zero operational carbon.

ASHRAE Project Committees continuously develop and update standards to incorporate the latest technical innovations. Through active participation in these committees, NRMCA ensures concrete solutions remain at the forefront of construction considerations. This advocacy emphasizes concrete's key benefits: energy efficiency, sustainability, resilience and superior fire resistance.
