In the first two months of 2025, NRMCA Manager, Codes and Sustainability, Matthew Lemay presented updates on sustainability initiatives at three state ready mixed concrete association meetings:
- On January 30 - 31, the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association hosted its annual Technical Workshop in Wisconsin Dells with approximately 150 attendees.
- On February 19 - 20, the Missouri Concrete Association hosted its 65th Winter Meeting in Kansas City, MO, with approximately 140 attendees.
- On February 20 - 21, the Nebraska Concrete & Aggregate Association hosted its 66th Annual Convention in Kearney with approximately 125 attendees.
At each event, Lemay discussed the federal pause on Inflation Reduction Act programs which affects an EPA-administered grant program that would have offset the cost of EPD creation for ready mix producers. NRMCA is now pursuing several of the proposed program's objectives through independent funding. Learn more at nrmca.org/epagrant.
NRMCA also provided updates on the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) program. NRMCA verified EPDs at a record 214 plants in 2024 (up from 200 in 2023 and 53 in 2022). In the Midwest, private-sector commitment to green building remains the major driver of low-carbon construction, a trend which NRMCA expects to continue regardless of federal policy.
