AGC Economist Sees Brighter Days Ahead for Part of Housing Construction Market

Construction in the energy, manufacturing and multifamily housing sectors will increase steadily between 2012 and 2013, according to Ken Simonson, chief economist for the Associated General Contractors of America. "This year, for the first time in five years, construction spending should be up anywhere from 5% to 15%," Simonson said. The economist cited Marcellus shale gas development as a factor encouraging manufacturers to expand throughout the country.
