NRMCA Comments on LEED 2012 Third Draft

NRMCA reviewed the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) third draft version of the LEED 2012 Rating System and provided comments for those sections of the LEED system that affect concrete applications. The comment period closed March 27, 2012. LEED 2012 includes changes to all major LEED rating systems that affect new construction, existing construction, homes, and neighborhoods.
The comments that NRMCA addressed include:
• IR Credit: integrative process
• SS credit: heat island reduction
• MR credit: building reuse and whole building life cycle assessment
• MR credit: material life cycle disclosure and assessment
• MR credit: responsible extraction of raw materials
• MR credit: avoidance of chemicals of concern
• EQ credit: acoustic performance
NRMCA will provide follow up articles this fall regarding final adoption of the changes and final publication of the LEED 2012 Rating System.
