NRMCA's celebration of the 100th anniversary of ready mixed concrete in the U.S. continues its September offerings with two of the Association's most longstanding Producer and Associate members - see below for their respective Web site links. This week's industry milestone: At 564 feet in height, Montana’s Hungry Horse Dam was the third largest dam, and second highest concrete dam, in the world at the time of its completion in 1953 with a volume of 3.1 million cubic yards.

Southern Concrete Materials - In the 1920′s Reed and Abee, Inc. started business in Asheville NC, as Oakley Construction Company; it was soon in the ready mixed concrete business along with the construction business. In 1958, it was acquired by the current company and Asheville Concrete was well on its way. Asheville Concrete Materials, Inc. expanded greatly in the next 25 years, from the one plant to 18 plants. In 1983, the name was changed to Southern Concrete Materials, Inc. to represent the larger geographical area served by the company. Currently, Southern Concrete has over 175 mixer trucks, 25 tractors, 300 employees and 30 locations in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Read more.

RexCon LLC - RexCon LLC was founded in 2003 through an acquisition of all assets, including all products, patents, drawing designs and trade names. The original company, Rex Chainbelt, was founded over 100 years ago and quickly established itself as a leading manufacturer of equipment for the paving and ready mixed concrete industry. Now, RexCon LLC continues to offer parts and service support for these legacy concrete plants, mixers and paving machinery, in addition to offering new, used and re-manufactured concrete equipment from its headquarters in Burlington, WI.
