NRMCA Member Earns EPA Energy Star Designation for California Cement Plant
NRMCA Associate member CalPortland's Rillito, CA, cement plant has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ENERGY STAR® certification, which signifies that the industrial facility performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA. To earn the EPA's certiciation, CalPortland among other steps installed a kiln expert control system to reduce the kiln process fuel intensity and installed a new gas conditioning tower with a baghouse modification that led to a 2.6 Million kWh/year savings.
ENERGY STAR® was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. The Glendora, CA-based CalPortland Company is a producer of cement, concrete, aggregates, concrete products and asphalt in the western U.S. and Canada.
