Concrete Technology Reduces Lane-Closure Hours on British Highway
The use of Rapid Cure concrete has cut the number of closure hours needed for repair work on the M25 highway in the United Kingdom by 80%. The concrete technology, which adds "a super-plasticiser and a curing accelerator" to the concrete mix, is being tested by Connect Plus, a joint venture that involves Balfour Beatty and Skanska, for work on the old concrete roadway. "We've been developing the Rapid Cure concrete innovation over many months and it has enabled us to reduce carriageway closure hours by seven weeks this year alone," according to Tim Jones, chief executive of Connect Plus.
