The NRMCA’s Pervious Concrete Promotion Subcommittee has released its Pervious In Practice #2: Importance of Using Certified Pervious Concrete Contractors. The document is the second in the Pervious In Practice (PIP) series and is aimed toward owners and specifiers.

"As an industry, we have made great strides in pervious concrete quality assurance, primarily through our contractor certification training program," said NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Phil Kresge. "However, there are still pervious projects that fail. More often than not, our forensic investigations point to contractor error as the root of the failure. This PIP explains that, besides having the experience to successfully place and finish pervious concrete, a certified pervious concrete contractor will recognize the physical properties and characteristics of pervious concrete that will allow him/her to make adjustments at the jobsite to correct deficiencies that could cause the project to fail."

"Any specifier writing pervious concrete specifications should consult this document before preparing their bid documents," added Subcommittee Chairman Dave Frentress of NRMCA Producer member CalPortland. "The committee also recommends that ready mix producers and certified pervious concrete contractors assist us in getting this valued document into the hands of specifiers."
