House Member Updates NRMCA Members on Timber Innovation Act
During the Quarterly DC Days visits to members of Congress, NRMCA members received an update on the Timber Innovation Act from special guest Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA). Rep. Woodall, who has been a champion for the ready mixed concrete industry, talked about efforts to reach out to the new Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue. Rep. Woodall pointed out that the new administration and the Department of Agriculture will be more focused on supporting America's farmers. In addition, agencies and departments across the federal government will see their budgets cut and the Department of Agriculture is no exception. As a result, there will likely be less appetite for initiatives that are driven by climate change compared to the past administration, such as green buildings and the provisions of the Timber Innovation Act, which will consequently become less of a priority.
Rep. Woodall was also a champion for NRMCA's Hours of Service provisions included in passage of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act. NRMCA government affairs will continue to work with champions like Rep. Woodall to advocate for issues important to the ready mixed concrete industry, both in Congress and at the Department of Agriculture.
