Recently, NRMCA Local Paving engineer Amanda Hult met with a local engineering firm in Covington, LA, to present concrete pavement design to company employees. The firm was interested in learning more about the design and construction of pervious concrete since many of its projects in the New Orleans area are required to have pervious pavements for stormwater reasons. “We know that pervious concrete is more of a specialty product so we want to know how to design, specify and construct the material to ensure the best results,” one engineer stated.
Hult also provided the attendees with some basic design information on conventional concrete parking lots and concrete overlays. The attendees were surprised that some of their common practices, especially when dealing with jointing, were not recommended in the ACI 330R-08 and the Guide to Concrete Overlays of Asphalt Parking Lots documents.
While in Louisiana, Hult also met with several other design firm representatives and provided them with copies of the Guide to Concrete Overlays of Asphalt Parking Lots.
If you would like more information on any of these topics or to schedule a meeting or presentation for a design firm in your area, contact Amanda Hult or the Local Paving representative for your area.
