Due to continued market demand, Granite Rock recently received verification for supplemental environmental product declarations (EPDs). Eighteen additional mixes from each of three plants were submitted and verified under NRMCA’s supplemental EPD program. Granite Rock now has over 200 mix designs with EPDs.
Supplemental EPDs are for mixes that were not part of an original verification project, but were developed from the original life-cycle analysis (LCA) report. Although the expiration date remains the same as the original project, the verification fee is less and allows ready mix producers to quickly respond to customer inquiries for a mix code that wasn’t previously listed. Granite Rock EPD’s were generated from a LCA report developed by Athena Sustainable Materials Institute and verified by NSF International.
To date, the U.S. and Canadian ready mixed concrete industry, including material suppliers, have verified 32 EPDs with a total of 9,238 mix codes, by far the largest total of any building product category.
Integral to the Build With Strength campaign, NRMCA promotes Strength Through Transparency for member and industry competitiveness in the green building marketplace and the trends toward product and company transparency.
