NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Don Clem, PE, recently provided attendees of the American Public Works Association's annual spring conference in Grand Junction, CO, an overview of concrete overlays of asphalt parking lots, the concrete pavement design center and www.pavementdesigner.org in a break-out session. The conference attracts public works officials from throughout the western slope region of Colorado. Holly Martin of United Companies (a CRH and NRMCA Producer member company) and chairman of the Colorado Ready Mixed Concrete Association's (CRMCA) Western Market Committee arranged for the presentation. Doug Wolf of CRMCA member Whitewater Building Materials also attended and assisted in answering audience questions. In the presentation, Clem pointed to a 5-year old concrete overlay project (6 inch thick concrete, 6 foot x 6 foot joint spacing, 5 miles long) on nearby I-70 (shown here), which is performing beyond all expectations.
