NRMCA has verified a system level Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) program for Producer member Ready Mix USA, a CEMEX company. Responding to product transparency requests for a LEED project, NRMCA verified 15 concrete mix designs from the Harvest, AL, plant generated by an EPD software tool. The software and program meet standards and streamlines the verification process which consists of reviewing life-cycle assessments (LCA) that generate an EPD on-demand. The software tool was developed by Climate Earth, and integrates LCA impacts with a mix design batch operating system to generate EPDs when desired. The software and underlying life cycle data for the plant was reviewed and verified by Sustainable Solutions Corporation. From this point forward, Ready Mix USA can generate EPD's on-demand from its Harvest plant using the tool. Ready Mix USA EPD's can be found here.
Established in 2012, NRMCA’s EPD Program aims to help concrete producers and concrete product suppliers meet new requirements in green building rating systems such as LEED v4, the International Green Construction Code (IgCC), and the Architecture 2030 Challenge for Products. As the leading Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) Program Operator for the concrete industry, NRMCA has verified over 10,000 plant specific mix designs from 20 companies.
As part of the Build With Strength campaign, NRMCA promotes Strength Through Transparency for member and industry competitiveness in the green building marketplace and the trends toward product and company transparency.
