The PRO Act is once again gaining momentum in Congress. Last week, the Senate Health, Labor, Education and Pensions (HELP) Committee held a hearing on the proposed legislation; President Biden included it in his American Jobs Plan infrastructure proposal and House Democrats are pledging to include it in a reconciliation package.
This anti-business legislation would reinstate many of the harmful policies that NRMCA has long opposed, including card check and elimination of private ballots, the persuader rule to inhibit employers access to counsel and the ambush elections rule to speed the time for an organizing election, among others.
Ahead of the committee hearing, NRMCA, NSSGA and PCA sent a joint letter to the HELP Committee opposing the legislation and its inclusion in other packages. In addition, NRMCA joined more than 280 business organizations in opposing the bill, including many NRMCA state affiliates, in a letter lead by the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace. In addition, a number of NRMCA state affiliates in key states have sent letters to their senators outlining the negative impacts of the policy on the industry and urging opposition.
