The Northern New England Concrete Association (NNECA) and Build With Strength recently co-sponsored a booth at the 13th Annual Maine Code Conference hosted by the Maine Building Officials & Inspectors Association in conjunction with the Maine Fire Chiefs’ Association. NNECA Executive Director Jon Kuell and NRMCA Vice President, Fire Codes and Standards, Shamim Rashid-Sumar (seen here) attended the event which was held in Phippsburg, ME. The conference brought together code officials and the fire safety community from across Maine as well as executives from the International Code Council and provided the concrete industry a venue to exhibit and promote fire safe concrete construction. Kuell reported the attendees represented the vast majority of the state’s population and visitors to the booth showed interest in ICF construction and non-combustible building materials.
“After meeting members of the education committee, we’ve identified a number of opportunities for the concrete industry to provide training and education to the code officials throughout the Northeast region,” Kuell said.
Build with Strength is a coalition led by NRMCA that offers presentations and other resources to architects, engineers, and building and fire code officials as part of its education efforts to promote safety and resiliency and help place more concrete.
