Last month Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-MN) visited NRMCA member Strata Corp.’s Detroit Lakes facility in Minnesota to gain a clearer understanding of aggregate and concrete materials production; discuss industry concerns and how federal policies and legislation might better improve the business climate in Minnesota and across the country. The day’s event was hosted by Strata Corp., ARM of Minnesota, and NRMCA.
Rep. Fischbach (seen here being briefed on Strata's Minnesota facilities) toured the plant and then joined a local radio station for a "What’s on Your Mind” program to discuss her legislative agenda as it relates to the broader concrete industry. The program was broadcast across Minnesota, North Dakota and parts of Montana, bringing the issues concrete producers are facing to the attention of the public in those areas. The program covered the opportunities and challenges facing our industry with commentary from: John Cunningham (ARM of Minnesota), Andrew Tyrrell and Gregg Lewis (NRMCA), Tim Hostettler (CIM program director) and Alf Gardiner (Braun Intertec).
During her tour, Rep. Fischbach saw how materials are produced, processed and moved into mixer trucks for delivery. In taking in the facility and its operation, she was notably impressed by the hard work and ingenuity that concrete production requires. She spent quite a bit of time with the professionals at Strata, absorbing all she could about how the business functions. Toward the end of the day, Rep. Fischbach addressed employees and industry representatives on an array of topics, including the importance concrete to society, workforce and immigration matters, improvements to zoning policies and how the industry is tackling climate-related issues. She said she would be an advocate for the ready mixed concrete and aggregate industries.
NRMCA’s Government Affairs team applauds the leadership of Hank Hauge for planning the event and advocating for the industry with his Members of Congress.
