NRMCA Producer Member Holds Lunch & Learn on Low Carbon Concrete

NRMCA Producer member Thomas Concrete recently held a Lunch & Learn session at its Charleston, SC, office on low-carbon concrete. Thomas’s team of Joy Davidson, TCI sustainability manager and Justin Lazenby, director of technical services, led a discussion that touched on the challenges of decarbonizing construction, tools for reducing CO2 emissions, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Type 1L cement and other solutions and economic benefits of sustainable concrete, reports NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Patrick Matsche.

Organized in part by Thomas’ Chad Dyson, commercial sales manager - Coastal Carolinas and a recent graduate of the NRMCA’s Developing Industry Leaders (DIL) program, the event brought together Charleston city officials, including those from the mayor’s office, specifiers, architects and contractors. The event was designed to address the challenges facing local communities and bring stakeholders together to discuss the demands of growth and decarbonizing construction.

“The City of Charleston is committed to sustainable and resilient construction. Charleston RISES is part of Charleston’s commitment to be a national leader in innovative infrastructure," Dyson said. "The experiences I shared with our local team, working with the Build With Strength’s DIL group supporting the efforts organizing the Colorado Executing Low Carbon Roundtable, was the catalyst for this event.”
