NRMCA Releases Position Statement on Concrete Acceptance Testing

NRMCA has released a position statement titled Reliable Concrete Acceptance Testing for Improved Sustainability and Performance developed by the Research Engineering and Standards Committee. Highlights include:

1. Outlines how by ensuring that the initial curing of acceptance test specimens is performed in accordance with standards the carbon footprint of concrete can be reduced by 10% or more
2. Provides the codes and standards requirements for acceptance testing along with the responsibilities of various stakeholders
3. Provides an approach to ensure that acceptance test requirements are adopted in the project

As the cement and concrete industries are taking steps to move toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, this position statement provides an opportunity for the various stakeholders to come together. In addition to lowering the carbon footprint, concrete testing in accordance with standards will also help improve concrete performance, and reduce project costs and delays. The position statement has been endorsed by the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC).
