Build With Strength Holds Ceremony for Concrete Innovation Award Winner

On September 24, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Mruk and Connecticut Concrete Promotion Council Executive Director Dominic Di Cenzo jointly served as master of ceremonies for the Build With Strength Concert Innovation Awards held at the recently completed New Canaan, CT, Library. Connecticut State Representative Tom O’Dea and New Canaan Library Board of Trustees Vice President Eileen Thomas attended and spoke at the event.

The New Canaan Library was recognized for its sustainability, employing materials that are locally sourced, recycled and known for their energy efficiency and low-carbon footprint. The project achieved an energy use intensity which is 89% below the U.S. baseline. Integral to the project was the utilization of Pozzotive®, produced by Urban Mining Industries, a recycled, ground glass pozzolan produced locally with the active participation of NRMCA member O&G Industries along with E2 Engineers, Turner Construction and a committed owner team. The carbon footprint of the concrete was reduced by nearly 30%.

Congratulations to all involved in this award winning project. Shown here, from left to right, are team members Dan Koenig (Turner), State Rep.
