Pavement
NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Phil Kresge recently participated in a panel discussion on concrete test cylinders at the Washington Area Council of Engineering Laboratories' luncheon in Tysons Corner, VA. Other panel members included NRMCA members Rod Meyers, Schuster Concrete and Tek Chua, Vulcan Materials, along with William Rafferty, R.L. Swope Associates, and Jules Reese, Independent Consultants and Engineering. The program was coordinated by Hessam Nabavi from the Virginia Ready-Mixed Concrete Association.

Join the RMC Research & Education Foundation for a Walk for Wellness on Sunday, September 18, at 8:30 a.m. (registration beginning at 8 a.m.). This year, the walk will take place in conjunction with the NRMCA’s Annual Truck Mixer Driver Championship, starting and ending at the course. This popular event will continue to emphasize the importance of health within the concrete industry while also supporting the participants of the Mixer Driver Championship. Your participation is a tremendous opportunity to support this initiative and the Foundation at the same time. Registration is $25 per walker.

Buildings
The Borough of Edgewater, NJ, Zoning Board recently held a hearing to consider rebuilding the burned-down Avalon at Edgewater apartment complex with the same lightweight wood-frame construction method that caused the fire in the first place.
Build with Strength, a coalition led by the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, released a new poll that found registered New Jersey voters strongly support the state making changes to construction codes in the wake of the January 2015 Edgewater fire.
NRMCA exhibited its Build with Strength program at CONSTRUCT 2016, held earlier this month in Austin, TX. CONSTRUCT is the conference of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
