The MIT Concrete Sustainability Hub has called on the Trump administration and Congress to update building codes, prioritize durable materials like high-performance concrete and introduce incentives for resilient construction. With natural disasters projected to cost the U.S. nearly $40 billion annually by 2075, strengthening construction is more urgent than ever. By improving infrastructure, we can protect communities and significantly reduce long-term recovery costs and insurance burdens. Modernizing construction standards is a proactive solution to the growing frequency and intensity of natural disasters, offering long-term savings for both taxpayers and insurers.
