The Concrete Council of St. Louis recently offered its first Concrete Inspection Seminar for contractors, engineers and public agency inspectors in the metro St. Louis area which encompasses part of Missouri and Illinois. The event quickly sold out with 80 participants (many seen here) and a waiting list already in place for the next scheduled seminar. The full-day seminar, for which 6 hours of PDH credit were awarded, addressed the following topics:

In the first two months of 2025, NRMCA Manager, Codes and Sustainability, Matthew Lemay presented updates on sustainability initiatives at three state ready mixed concrete association meetings:
On March 12, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations and Northeast Region Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Vice President, Frank Mruk supported NYC Women in Design and Construction Month at the Talea (female founded) restaurant in Midtown New York City. The evening celebrated the Beverly Willis (1929-1923) Architectural Foundation which is changing the industry of design and construction through education and research. Speakers included Angela T. Baccon, AIA, SHOP Architects; Ryan Langley, BWAF and Mary Kate Krege, Gensler. The Beverly Willis Architectural Foundation was incorporated in 2002 with the mission to lead a cultural revolution in the building industry that will acknowledge, cultivate and value women’s contributions and achievements - past, present and future. NRMCA's Concrete Durability Course provides ready mixed concrete professionals and associated technical personnel with the critical knowledge and skills necessary to ensure that the industry produces high-quality and durable concrete products and structures. Learners enrolled in this course will gain insight into the mechanisms that impact concrete durability; learn to identify and evaluate the deterioration of concrete; and how to review methods to prevent and mitigate durability problems. Topics will cover the concrete microstructure, cracking, corrosion mechanisms, freeze-thaw resistance, sulfate resistance, alkali aggregate reactions (AAR) and other durability-related distress. Also covered are requirements in industry code and specifications and performance-based alternatives to achieve durable concrete. Attendees passing the course exam will have the opportunity to obtain the NRMCA Concrete Technologist Level 4 Certification.

This year’s Safety, Environmental and Operations (SEO) DeBoer Committee meeting will be held April 22 - 23 in Arlington, TX, at the new National Medal of Honor Museum. This year's meeting will consist of a tour of the concrete monolith museum, meetings of the Safety, Environmental and Operations task groups and the full SEO Committee. Attendees will include leading industry safety, environmental, operations, regulatory, plant and truck professionals. NRMCA is soliciting sponsorships for the 2-day meeting. NRMCA Senior Vice President, Local Paving, Phil Kresge recently presented at the 25th Annual Maryland Concrete Conference. His presentation, Pervious Concrete Design, Maintenance and Repair, was well received by the 80+ attendees. Kresge also was a facilitator for the Low Carbon Concrete: Challenges & Solutions National and Local roundtable discussion. Following the presentations, Kresge joined his colleague, Build With Strength Manager, Building Innovations, Derek Torres, at the NRMCA tabletop exhibit. Conference attendees included representatives from the design and construction community as well as the Maryland State Highway Administration.
