NRMCA Executive Vice President of Engineering Colin Lobo, Ph.D., P.E., has worked with NRMCA’s Small Producer Council to produce two informative quality control videos titled Basic QC Activities for Ready Mixed Concrete Producers Parts 1 and 2. The Council provides resources and networking opportunities for small to mid-size Producer member companies. Stay tuned for more resources on the Council's webpage and make sure to look at existing resources and quick links. Interested in getting involved with the Small Producer Council? NRMCA recently participated in the 2025 ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) 90.1 SSPC spring meeting at society headquarters in Atlanta. Senior Director, Energy Codes and Standards, Darryl Dixon and his colleague Julian Mills-Beale, director, codes and standards, participated in 90.1 Envelope Subcommittee meetings on energy standards for sites/buildings. As members of several ASHRAE’s project committees (SSPC), the codes and standards team votes on proposals and initiatives that clarify thermal resistance and envelope performance of wall assemblies and building materials. ASHRAE Project Committees (PCs) continually develop new standards and guidelines and revise current ones so they reflect technical advances in the areas they cover. Through its engagement, NRMCA helps ensure that energy efficient and sustainable concrete solutions receive due consideration in industry standards. For more information about NRMCA’s energy codes and standards advocacy efforts, contact Darryl Dixon at ddixon@nrmca.org. Buildings
School administrators, district officials and architects specializing in educational facilities are invited to a unique event focused on the future of school construction: the next installment of Build With Strength's School Summit Series, High-Performance Construction for K-12 Schools, will take place at Tremco University in Coppell, TX, on May 7 - 8.
![]() On April 10, NRMCA Senior Director, Building Innovations, Frank Mruk and Ken Lynch (Nudura/Tremco) were invited by Chris Ida, a building official at Mohegan Sun, to present a session on insulated concrete forms and current developments in concrete innovations at the monthly meeting of the Southeastern Connecticut Building Officials (SECTBO) meeting. The meeting was held at the Buon Appetite restaurant in North Stonington, CT (seen here). SECTBO promotes the building code profession as integral to building safety; advances the understanding, formulation and enforcement of the Connecticut State Building Code; and recognizes the need to promote continuing education to assist municipal code officials in methods and procedures utilizing building codes and regulations. For more information, contact Frank Mruk at fmruk@nrmca.org. NRMCA recently participated in the 2025 Tennessee Building Officials Conference (TBOC) held from April 14 to 16 in Gatlinburg. Dr. Julian Mills-Beale, director of civil/structural codes and standards, led and taught two International Code Council (ICC) preferred courses – 3D Printed Concrete Technology and NRMCA 100 Design Standards for Exterior Concrete Walls for One- and Two-Family Dwellings. The Tennessee Concrete Association (TCA) led by Executive Director Alan Sparkman also exhibited at the conference, showcasing the superior performance of concrete as the design material of choice. The occasion also afforded NRMCA the opportunity to join building and code professionals throughout Tennessee to discuss, educate, promote and advocate for construction that protects public health, safety and welfare in the state. For more information about NRMCA’s civil/structural codes and standards advocacy efforts, contact Julian Mills-Beale at jmills-beale@nrmca.org. Representing NRMCA at the just-concluded American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2025 Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) Congress was Dr. Julian Mills-Beale, director of civil/structural codes and standards. Dr. Mills-Beale participated in the Multi-hazard Mitigation Committee and Sustainability Committee meetings, contributing ideas that promote innovative, resilient and sustainable concrete for construction. It is also worth noting that NRMCA joined discussions with architects, designers and engineers on the Structural Engineers' (SE) 2050 Commitment Program to “Educate, Engage, Report and Advocate” for sustainable design and construction. For more information about NRMCA’s civil/structural codes and standards advocacy efforts, contact Julian Mills-Beale at jmills-beale@nrmca.org.

The Safety Contest & Benchmarking Survey has for years been a safety performance and incentive/award program aimed to foster safe practices at ready mixed concrete plants across the nation. The survey is a per-plant contest open to facilities operated by NRMCA member companies in good standing in 2024. Companies with more than one division are encouraged to distribute entry blanks to individuals responsible for keeping safety records at each plant location. The deadline for submitting completed entries to Mitchell Freed, CPA, at mfreed@tfcpas.com is now Thursday, May 1. Click here for more information and to download the survey entry form. The NRMCA staff contact is Kevin Walgenbach. The 2025 Fleet Benchmarking Survey is filled out by industry fleet managers and/or financial managers early each year, based on data gathered from the previous calendar year’s performance. The survey is used to establish industry benchmarking norms and procedures; information gathered is published in a full report in Concrete InFocus magazine each autumn. The deadline for submitting completed entries to Mitchell Freed, CPA, at mfreed@tfcpas.com is now Thursday, May 1. Click here for more information and to download the survey entry form.
