The estimated ready mixed concrete produced in March 2018 is 27.3 million cubic yards, 1% lower than that in March 2017. The estimated production in the US through March is 70 million cubic yards, unchanged from that during the same period in 2017. Ready mixed concrete production is estimated from cement shipments reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. The National Concrete Pavement Technology Center will be holding a Webinar titled Performance Engineered Mixtures for Concrete Pavements in the US on Wednesday, June 27, from 10 to 11 a.m. Central time. As you may know, a new Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulation governing exposure to respirable crystalline silica is set to take effect on Saturday, June 23. In anticipation of the upcoming deadline, NRMCA has created an industry-specific silica compliance guide that aims to help give ready mixed concrete producers the necessary tools to assess their exposure and determine what steps may need to be taken to maintain compliance. Registration for NRMCA’s Fall 2018 Safety Course is still open; it takes place October 16 - 18 in Glendora, CA. This 2.5-day course teaches participants about OSHA safety compliance. NRMCA Senior Vice President, Local Paving, Phil Kresge recently participated in a pervious concrete seminar hosted by the Virginia Ready Mixed Concrete Association (VRMCA). The program, “Paradigm Shift: VDOT Opts for Pervious Concrete,” was presented by the Southwest VA Concrete Advisory Council of VRMCA and highlighted the pervious concrete parking lot constructed at the Interstate Route 81 Exit 140 Park & Ride in Salem, V Government Affairs
