The NRMCA Pervious Concrete Promotion Subcommittee is currently to develop the NRMCA Pervious Concrete University, a traveling road show intended to educate both industry members and specifiers about the latest technology and developments in pervious concrete design, production, placement and maintenance. Last week, Martin Marietta Sales Manager Matt Riebe assembled his Denver-based metro and northern sales team to participate in an NRMCA Concrete Parking Lot Boot Camp, reports NRMCA Vice President, Local Paving, Don Clem. Presentations ranged from an overview of ACI 330-R 08 Guide for Design and Construction of Concrete Parking Lots, Guide to Concrete Overlays of Asphalt Parking Lots (funded by the RMC Research & Education Foundation), promotion strategies, NRMCA resources, the Design Assistance Program and preparing a life cycle cost analysis. In addition to Clem, presenters included Leonard Velasquez, SLV Quality Concrete (ASCC member, shown at right here) and Dave Gray, GCC of America (at left). Following the boot camp, Riebe reported that the sales team will be setting goals and establishing a timeline for successful concrete parking lot promotion. For more information, contact Don Clem at dclem@nrmca.org. The Dickinson, ND, airport was in need of runway and taxiway improvements, so at the request of Producer member Scott Olin of Dickinson Ready Mix, NRMCA provided the local consultant with a design report for the runway and taxiway using concrete as the preferred pavement option. In addition, Olin and NRMCA Senior Director, Local Paving, Ken Justice met with the consultant, located in Rapid City, SD, to go over the design. Mr. Olin has reported that the project did go concrete, with bids opening this week. The projects will total in excess of 50,000 cubic yards over several years. For more information, contact Ken Justice at kjustice@nrmca.org. Government Affairs
NRMCA advocates on behalf of the ready mixed concrete industry through our involvement in the political process. CONCRETEPAC is the ready mixed concrete industry’s Political Action Committee (PAC) that supports pro-business, pro-ready mixed concrete candidates for federal office. Please note that federal law requires companies to “authorize” the PAC for each calendar year before NRMCA can share details about the PAC or solicit contributions. Federal law only allows corporate members of NRMCA to grant prior approval to only one national trade association's PAC per calendar year. However, granting prior approval for CONCRETEPAC does not preclude employees from contributing to local or state PACs, national members or ideological PACs or a company’s own federal PAC. Eligible employees include those with executive, managerial or senior administrative responsibilities. Click here to give prior authorization to CONCRETEPAC today and learn more about how you can help the ready mixed concrete industry’s voice be heard on Capitol Hill. For more information, contact Taylor Drzewicki, director of government and political affairs, at tdrzewicki@nrmca.org or 240-485-1136.
